Bakery-Style Homemade Glazed Donuts That Melt In Your Mouth

Soft, fluffy homemade glazed donuts covered in a sweet vanilla glaze. Worth every minute of rise time—and every bit as good as your favorite donut shop.
I never fry anything.
In fact, the last time I tried frying food was in college when I accidentally started a grease fire while making chicken fried steak. It scared me badly enough that I avoided frying for years.
But these homemade glazed donuts were worth facing my fear.
They’re soft, fluffy, melt-in-your-mouth delicious, and topped with a simple vanilla glaze that sets up beautifully. What surprised me most was how easy they were to make. While there is some waiting involved for chilling and rising, the actual hands-on work is simple enough for beginner bakers.
The real test came when my son, who considers himself a donut expert, took a bite and declared them better than the donut shops. That’s when I knew this recipe was a keeper.
If you’ve ever wanted to make homemade glazed donuts from scratch but felt intimidated, don’t be. This recipe walks you through the process step by step and rewards you with bakery-style donuts that are fresh, warm, and absolutely irresistible.

Homemade Glazed Donuts
Ingredients
Method
- Warm milk to about 105°F. Stir in sugar and yeast. Let sit 5 minutes.
- Add eggs and melted butter.
- Slowly mix in flour and salt until a dough forms. Knead/mix for about 5 minutes.
- Let dough rest 10 minutes, then transfer to a greased bowl, cover, and refrigerate at least 2 hours or overnight.
- Roll dough out on a floured surface to about ½-inch thick. Cut donuts using a donut cutter.
- Place donuts on a greased baking sheet, cover, and let rise about 1 hour until puffy.
- Heat oil to 350–375°F. Fry donuts about 90 seconds per side until golden brown. Donut holes cook faster.

- Dip warm donuts into glaze and enjoy!
