Ingredients

For the Glaze
  • ½ cup butter melted
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • About 3 Tbsp milk or cream
  • Dash of salt
For the Donuts
  • 1⅛ cups warm milk
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • tsp active dry yeast 1 packet
  • 2 large eggs lightly beaten
  • 10 Tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • Oil or shortening for frying

Method

  1. Warm milk to about 105°F. Stir in sugar and yeast. Let sit 5 minutes.
  2. Add eggs and melted butter.
  3. Slowly mix in flour and salt until a dough forms. Knead/mix for about 5 minutes.
  4. Let dough rest 10 minutes, then transfer to a greased bowl, cover, and refrigerate at least 2 hours or overnight.
  5. Roll dough out on a floured surface to about ½-inch thick. Cut donuts using a donut cutter.
  6. Place donuts on a greased baking sheet, cover, and let rise about 1 hour until puffy.
  7. Heat oil to 350–375°F. Fry donuts about 90 seconds per side until golden brown. Donut holes cook faster.
  8. Remove to paper towels briefly.
  9. For the glaze, whisk together melted butter, vanilla, powdered sugar, milk, and salt until smooth.
  10. Dip warm donuts into glaze and enjoy!
