Bake the Cake:
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Grease and flour the skull mold well.
- Fill with chocolate cake batter and bake until a toothpick comes out clean (time depends on mold size, ~30–40 min).
- Cool completely, then gently remove cake.
Prepare the Shell:
- Clean and dry the mold.
- Melt white chocolate until smooth.
- Spoon or brush a generous layer inside the mold, covering every detail. Chill until firm.
Assemble the Skull:
- Trim a thin slice from the top of the cooled cake (the “brain cap”).
- Set cake back into the white-chocolate-lined mold.
- Spoon cherry pie filling into the cavity where the “brain” goes.
- Replace the trimmed piece of cake on top.
Seal & Chill:
- Cover the back with more melted white chocolate, sealing the filling inside.
- Refrigerate until completely set.
Unmold & Finish:
- Carefully pop the skull out of the mold.
- Lightly dust cocoa powder into the eye sockets, around the teeth, and along contours for an aged look.
